“Hidden layer” is used to shape a controllable electrical field. There are no pixels

LC molecules align to shaped electric field. There are no pixels – LC molecules align to shaped electric field. Since the refractive index is different for the long and short axes of LC molecules a gradient of refractive index, hence a lens, is created.

So instead of having a curved lens with a uniform refractive index, LensVector’s lens is a flat FLAT lens with a non-uniform refractive index. By changing the electric field the strength (or optical power in diopters) of the lens can be changed.
